Bocaire – A Residential Community and Country Club with Flair

0

As you drive south of Atlantic Avenue on Military Trail in Boca Raton, FL, you’ll drive past a number of private communities and country clubs. One worthy of mention in this neck of the woods is Bocaire, a boutique country club community that is home to 237 custom-built estate homes that sit on at least 1/3 of an acre of land. Magnificently manicured fairways, serene lakes and beautifully landscaped vistas are just a few of the trappings of home in a community that caters to your family’s active lifestyle.

Late last year, Bocaire Country Club’s golf course and practice facilities underwent a total transformation and these days it looks nothing like it used to. The redesign of the golf course was performed under the leadership of Kipp Schulties, South Florida’s hottest golf course designer. Schulties took what was once a relatively flat course and turned it into a layout with lots of mounding on the peripheries and undulation in the fairways. His crew moved over 325,000 cubic yards of dirt and created several new lakes to get the course to what you see today. Every hole has undergone at least a subtle change and no green is in the exact same place it used to be.

The course has been lengthened to over 7,000 yards from the back tees, yet seven sets of tees make the course playable for every skill level and members never need a tee time. Course aesthetics have been greatly enhance as well; thousands of red bougainvillea, oleanders and stadium-like greens have been planted creating lush backdrops. Currently, Bocaire is the only South Florida course to feature TifGrand fairways, a grass that is a vibrant shade of green throughout the year and helps the ball sit up nicely. Along with a fresh look to the golf course comes a new name: The Challenge at Bocaire.

The Challenge offers several holes that live up to the new name. The par-3, 3rd hole boasts one of the highest elevations in Boca Raton, creating a truly dramatic downhill shot. A rock wall defines the water hazard in front of you; all the while your mind tells you “Don’t hit it left!” Should your tee shot become a case of mind over matter, there is plenty of bail out room on the right, leaving you with two choices; go at the pin or let the subtle undulations of the green feed your ball down to the hole. A large ‘serpentine’ bunker hugs the left side, between the water and the green. A back left pin is definitely the toughest.

Number 8 is the second par-3 on the front side and is also quite memorable.  It’s a totally new hole from tee to green that is as beautiful to look at as it is fun to play. Once again, the left side of the green is protected by water, with two bunkers in back if you hit it long. A ridge in the green will decide how close you get to the pin. The color that has been added to the landscape makes this an exceptional looking hole.

Ten and 11 are probably the best two back-to-back holes on the course and the best chance to shave off a couple of strokes quickly. Number 10 is a par 5 that can be played several ways. The riskiest is to carry the massive bunker and single oak tree on the corner of the dogleg right in order to give yourself a chance of getting home in two. A better play is out to the left off the tee, where you may find a flat lie. Should you leave yourself a chance to go for the green, you’ll need to thread the needle with water on the right and the two bunkers on the left. The way Schulties has set up the hole, even if you carry both, you’ll have an awkward lie because of the way the green pitches. Laying up to a fuller wedge distance may provide better results. The green has two tiers and being on the right tier could easily be the difference between a birdie putt and a bogey.

Number 11 will be a drivable par 3 for many players. Several bunkers dot the landscape in the landing area and the water on either side of the fairway keeps you honest off the tee. There’s a lot of undulation on and around the elevated green, which is the smallest on the course. Just remember, you didn’t come here to layup!

Bocaire realizes how important a good practice facility is and has gone to great lengths to create a practice facility that is second to none. The driving range allows you to hit every club in the bag into actual greens, many of which are fronted by rock bunkers. The newest addition is a separate short game area with multiple greens to give players an accurate feel of what awaits them on the course. There’s also a large practice putting green to let you work on the most important part of the game.

At Bocaire Country Club, it’s not all about the golf! Tennis enthusiasts can enjoy the Club’s 5 Har-Tru tennis courts, some of the which are lit for night play. The Bocaire tennis program offers something for every level of player, from daily round robins to Club Championships; they also have very active men’s, women’s and junior programs. Tennis professionals are onsite for lessons and racquet services.

Within Bocaire’s 4300 sq. ft. Fitness Center and Spa Services you’ll find the latest weight training and cardio equipment, and the personal instruction and fitness assessments you need to keep you at your physical peak. If group classes are more your thing, Bocaire has a variety of Zumba, yoga, aerobics, body sculpting and stretch classes for every fitness level. Bocaire’s team of fitness specialists provide comprehensive personal and group training and maintain a close connection with the Exercise Science and Wellness program at Florida Atlantic University. Bocaire members can also enjoy relaxing spa services by appointment from the club’s Certified Massage Therapist, who also does house calls.

After a tough day on the links or on the courts, Bocaire’s Aquatic Center is a great place to soak up some of Boca Raton’s beautiful weather. Members and their guests can relax at their resort-style pool which features a beach-style entry and two dedicated swimming lanes for a great workout. Bocaire also offers water fitness classes for those who enjoy a non-impact exercise program. To compliment the pool, there’s a 10’ spa surrounded by a 9,100 sq. ft. sundeck along with beautifully appointed cabanas and baths with lockers located nearby.

Bocaire’s clubhouse is a beehive of activity and the heartbeat of the Club and their impeccable service and original cuisine sets Bocaire Country Club apart from other clubs in the area. When it comes to dining, members and guests can dine enjoy casual dining outside near the Aquatic Center or indoors in the club’s elegant dining facilities. Bocaire’s exquisite cuisine is available all year and the club’s Executive Chef and his talented culinary team create tantalizing and delicious dishes use only the finest and freshest ingredients. Lunch and dinner menus as well as a signature Sunday Brunch are not to be missed!

Members and guests marvel at the innovative family programs and the extensive calendar of entertainment, social events, card games and tournaments. But Bocaire is much more than a club; it’s a small, close knit community that offers unparalleled customer service and amenities that promote a healthy lifestyle and can be enjoyed by the whole family.

St. Andrews Golf & Country Club – A Great Place To Call Home

0

St. Andrews Country Club has been a coveted private residential country club for over 30 years, and it’s not by mistake. While it’s true that the club exudes and caters to a certain lifestyle that the majority of us will not attain in this lifetime, it also shows that the Club is on the right track heading into the future.

A mere 730 families call St. Andrews home. For a community with 2 private championship golf courses, 14 Har-Tru tennis courts, a newly renovated 10,000+ sq. ft. fitness center and multiple casual and fine dining venues, that’s a pretty low membership number, meaning you’ll have quick and easy access to just about every amenity the Club has to offer.

St. Andrews is not without its share of industry accolades, including recognition as a Distinguished Club of the World, and a Top Ten Healthiest Club in America award. Many consider St. Andrews a “Best of the Best” when it comes to country club living.

The homes within St. Andrews are all one-of-a-kind; no cookie-cutter homes here. All are luxurious and comfortable places to call home; well thought out spaces fit for entertaining, relaxing or whatever you have in mind. Open, original and spacious floor plans built with a passion for detail and superior craftsmanship.

For many, golf is the featured attraction at St. Andrews and it’s no wonder, with 36 holes designed by the iconic Arnold Palmer and Tom Fazio II. Each course will challenge you with rolling fairways, testy water hazards and greens framed by deep bunkers. LPGA professional Morgan Pressel lives in the community and touring professionals such as Phil Mickelson, Ken Duke, John Daly and Rocco Mediate enjoy playing the courses. With such a small private club membership, getting your preferred tee time is a breeze.

St. Andrews also has a Golf Performance Center which is state-of-the-art, with an indoor hitting bay, private practice area, a V1 Digital Coaching System and FlightScope Launch Monitor® technologies and a club fitting area sponsored by Callaway.

The Golf Shop at St. Andrews is filled with state-of-the-art equipment and fashionable, logoed apparel for men and women. Outfitting you in the proper attire is something St. Andrews takes pride in and they offer clothing for other community activities besides golf, whether it’s tennis, working out or just lounging around the pool! Their trunk and fashion shows provide opportunities to discover new styles to keep you looking good as the seasons change.

The Palmer Course presents several stunning vistas as it weaves its way through natural – albeit slight – rolling elevation changes. As you make your way around this layout, you’ll encounter several risk/reward opportunities that will keep you coming back to play again and again. One such hole is Number 9, a Par 5 that plays 479 yards from Blue Tees. This dogleg left features palm trees down the right side and trees, a large waste bunker and water down the left. A good drive down the right side of the fairway will give you the opportunity to go for the green; anything left of the middle of the fairway and you will have to clear a small grove of trees. Hit a good drive off the tee and you’ll have a hybrid or long iron into a long narrow green protected on the left by sand and water.

The second course at St. Andrews Country Club was designed by Tom Fazio II. What was originally named the Olde Course – after all, you can’t have a St. Andrews without having an Olde Course – was totally redesigned by Fazio II and crew and by all accounts is a lot more playable and fun. The visual appearance has changed considerably with new bunkering that is as eye-catching as it is strategic. The cart paths have been upgraded and the playability of the course has been improved making the course more enjoyable regardless of your skill level.

The Olde Course/Fazio II Course renovation was completed in December 2016 as part of a massive $25 million renovation which also included a total revamping of the golf practice facilities. In July of 2018 an 11,000-square-foot world-class spa was completed and includes a salt room, steam room and sauna, several new massage and treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure stations, and a new private make-up and hair area. Expansions of the main ballroom and ladies card room were also made and new outdoor sports amenities were added. In making these improvements to the club and community, St. Andrews is protecting the real estate and investments of its current and future members. The project took over three years and wrapped up last November with a $4 million renovation of the fitness and tennis facilities. The Tennis Center is headed up by former top-10 ranked tennis professional Aaron Krickstein. According to Krickstein, “The new tennis facilities’ redesign reinforces the Club’s commitment to the tennis program.”

The clubhouse at St. Andrews is where everything comes together. This 125,000-square-foot magnificent structure is where everyone goes to enjoy unrivaled food and entertainment. From the panoramic windows of the clubhouse you’ll enjoy stunning views of the fountain lake, herb garden and fairways. During the daytime hours, members enjoy bridge, gin, and canasta in the Men’s and Women’s Card Rooms as well as the occasional guest speaker and cooking classes.  When the sun goes down, black-tie affairs, festive holiday parties and charity events become the norm.

As the membership base gets younger, there’s a need to be more family-oriented and the kids are going to love it here! Two bright retro décor rec rooms are home to video game systems, table tennis, billiards and air hockey tables as well as Internet access through several computers. There are also complimentary refreshments and an attendant during the holidays, creating the perfect venue for private parties and ice cream socials.

Many private clubs are judged by the quality of their dining, an area in which St. Andrews surpasses most others. The culinary staff delights in creating a fresh, innovative cuisine designed to enrich the palette. They use abundant amounts of healthy ingredients to create savory dishes, whether you’re enjoying breakfast, lunch, dinner or one of their many themed buffets. Their handcrafted cocktails and excellent wine selection will keep you coming back. Lunches are available as you make the turn on either course or can be enjoyed poolside at Café Blue.

The Gallery is the St. Andrews flagship restaurant and features several rooms decorated in modern art with expansive views of the fairways. You’ll find traditional Italian, Mediterranean, California, continental, and seafood dishes made with freshly picked herbs and locally sourced ingredients. Whether it’s gourmet or comfort food you’re looking for, the talented culinary staff will delight in serving you a savory dish.

When it comes to restaurants with a view, it doesn’t get much better than The Grille at Lakeside. No matter if you’re dining indoors or out, you can gaze out over a glistening lake, lighted fountain, and a one of two finishing holes. The Grille serves up favorites like pasta, pizza, seafood, and salads in a fun, casual setting. An expansive children’s menu makes this restaurant a favorite for family dining, and the separate bar area with its large, flat-screen TV is the perfect place to watch your favorite team. Whether it’s dinner or drinks, The Grille at Lakeside is the spot at St. Andrews to hang out with friends and enjoy the view.

Golf and food are two good reasons to make your home at St. Andrews, although there are many more. To arrange a visit to check the property out, give them a call at (561) 451-4900 or visit them online at www.standrewscc.com.

Providence Golf Club – A Fabulous Golf Course in a Growing Community

0

I recently had the opportunity to play a round of Golf at Providence Golf Club in Davenport Florida. It had been about 8 years since my previous visit and the thing I remembered most was that, other than the golf course, there wasn’t a whole lot out there. My how things have changed; the community has grown up! Providence is easily accessible to area golfers; they are centrally located: just minutes from I-4 and all of the Orlando area attractions as well as both the Tampa and Orlando airports.

Providence Golf Club recently underwent a major renovated in 2018, including 21 redesigned and regrassed Champion G12 ultra dwarf putting surfaces. These greens are getting fantastic reviews. They’ve also updated the practice area and have installed a new tee as well as a short game area designed to help golfers of all skill levels improve their game.

Providence’s layout takes the elements of an Old Florida course, and fuses them with those of a heathland course and a parkland course. In other words, it’s a little bit of everything: wetlands, native grasses, manicured fairways and big trees! As you make your way around the layout, you’re bound to see an abundance of Florida wildlife including alligators, otters, cranes, egrets, great blue heron, wild turkey, hawks and snakes.

From the back tees, Providence will give even the most accomplished golfer a good test at 7,016 yards with a 73.3 course rating and a 131 slope. Most golfers will play either the Blue Tees (6,370/70.1/119) or White Tees (6,023/117/67.8). Ladies will enjoy Providence Golf Club from the Red Tees (5,029/69.1/114). Pick the set of tees that best match your game and your sure to enjoy this course.

Anyone who’s played golf in the area knows that there are about 30 courses within a 25 mile radius where they can tee it up at. A course in the area can achieve a competitive advantage by offering something a little different. That’s exactly what General Manager Tim Greco and the staff at Providence GC have done by creating a premier practice facility. In addition to the full-length driving range where you can hit every club in your bag. There’s a new comprehensive short game area, practice bunkers and a large practice green.

Providence has already done all of the over-seeding they plan on doing for the 2019 – 2020 season. The tee boxes were over-seeded in October and are already in pristine condition. Overall, the course is in immaculate shape thanks to the meticulous grounds keeping crew who can be seen working tirelessly all day long. The greens are incredible – quick and true: I’d put them up against any in the area. It’s no wonder that Providence is consistently recognized as one of the region’s premier golf courses.

Providence Golf Club is chock full of memorable holes, but there is a trio on each side that really stands out. The back-to-back-to-back par 4s that make up the stretch of holes from Number 5 – 7 features the hardest hole on the course sandwiched between two risk/reward holes. Number 5 is the shortest par 4 on the course at only 281 yards (Blue Tees). Water comes into play about 230 yards off the tee, so you may want to hit something less than driver. Going for the green requires a carry of about 250 over the water or a long, soft draw around it. This hole is especially fun when you put your chip shot in tight and your playing partner chunks his/her shot into the water. Pars aren’t likely to win any skins on this hole!

The 6th hole is where Providence Golf Club starts to show its grit; things have been pretty placid and straightforward up to this point. Number 6 plays 394 yards (Blue Tees) and, if you catch the right side of the fairway off the tee, you’re likely to get a favorable bounce back into the middle.  A good drive will leave a mid-iron approach shot into an angular green protected on the left by wetlands and a large bunker right. All of the subtle undulations in the green can easily have you shaking your head as you’re walking off,. There’s a good reason this hole is handicapped #1!

The thrill continues on Number 7, which plays 400 yards from the Blue Tees and is all about risk/reward. The risk is how much of the lake you decide to carry, the reward is a much shorter iron into the green. Something else to consider is the fact that the fairway isn’t all that wide; hit it through the fairway and you’ll find some gnarly rough that makes par that much tougher.  Success off the tee will still leave a precarious approach shot with water guarding the right side of the green and sand front left. The green can be long and narrow depending on the angle you come in from. Take a par and run!

The back nine also has its own run of three fun and challenging holes. At a mere 483 yards, Number 13 is the shortest par 5 on the course. By cutting the corner of the dogleg and flying over the fairway bunker, longball hitters will be able to go for the green in two. The water that fronts the green on the left will factor in and catch anything short. Low numbers are possible on this hole, but so are big numbers!

If I were naming holes, Number 14 would be called “Game Changer.” On any given day, this 433 yard par 4 can change the outcome of a match whether it’s a friendly skins games with your buddies or the club championship. Your tee shot here will be the most demanding shot of the day and how well you hit it will determine your chance of getting on the green in regulation. Finding the fairway is a necessity. Anytime you can write down a par on your scorecard for Number 14, it’s a good day!

The par 5, 15th hole is the longest on the course and easily the most beautiful. A good score here will be well-earned and starts with a tee shot to a very wide and inviting fairway that screams grip it and rip it! Your second shot requires more accuracy as the fairway gets very narrow in the landing area with water infringing on the left and some very large trees on the right. Two well-executed shots thus far will leave a mid to short-iron into one of the most treacherous greens on the course.  Word of advice: Keep the ball below the hole!

If you’ve got a short game and some guts, you can score well out here; conversely, it can be a disaster! Several holes offer risk reward opportunities that allow you to significantly shorten the hole; that’s where a good short game comes in.

After your round – or even before – stop by The Grille Room for your favorite post-round libation or catching the big game on one of 5 TVs. The dining menu is impressive and the food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the hot wings, crisp chicken wing served with just the right amount of heat and accompanied by blue cheese and celery. The Buffalo Chicken Salad is as good to look at as it is to eat and the Providence Signature Burger will not leave you hungry. Providence is a fabulous location to host your next event whether it’s a banquet golf outing or wedding. Their prices are tremendously affordable, the facilities are impressive and the food is outstanding. Two for one dinner is served on Wednesday and Friday features BINGO and typically a packed house.

This is just a quick overview on what Providence Golf Club has to offer. For more information or to book your next round or event, you can reach them by phone at (863) 424-7916 or online at www.providence-golf.com.

Apple Mountain Golf Club – Experience Relaxing Golf in the North Georgia Foothills

0

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Clarksville, GA you’ll find Apple Mountain Golf Club, an 18-hole mountain golf course that was nominated by Golf Digest as “Best New Public Course of 2000.” The course winds its way through the rolling foothills and features several elevation changes on the front nine. The back nine is a lot flatter and more wide open, with several streams and wetlands that come into play.

From the back tees, Apple Mountain plays 6,903 yards to a par of 71, with a course rating of 68.8 and at slope of 114. From back here you’ll face several long forced carries off the tee and need to hit accurate approach shots into medium sized greens with subtle breaks and undulations if you want to score well. In all, there are 4 sets of tees: White (5,902/66.9/108), Gold (5,105/63.4/104) and Red (5,003/67.6/110). Choose the distance that’s right for your game and you’re sure to have a great time.

Apple Mountain is one of the most talked about golf course in the area, with the picturesque North Georgia Mountains serving as a backdrop. At Apple Mountain Golf Club, you’ll find bent grass greens, Bermuda fairways, and lots of silver pine trees framing the fairways, helping you to create a golf adventure that is second to none! One you realize this is a course, you’ll want to play over and over, ask about their Frequent Golfer Card in the pro shop. With it, for every 5 rounds you play, your 6th round is free. It’s a great deal if you live in the area or visit frequently.

There are several memorable holes at Apple Mountain Golf Club starting with the first, a par 5 that plays 490 yards from the back tees. It’s a slight dogleg right with a narrow fairway. Find it off the tee with a good drive and you’ll have a chance to go for the green in two and get your round started off on the right foot. Anything left will likely be in the trees so favor the right side. Trees start to come into play on the right about 150 yards from the green. A single bunker guards the front right side of this small, undulated green.

Although the 3rd hole is a long par 4 that plays 439 yards, it is downhill and could be a great opportunity to hit the longest drive of your life! There are no bunkers guarding the green so swing away!

Number 6 is a long par 3 with perhaps the most daunting tee shot on the course. It’s 185 yards from the back tees, uphill over wetlands with a deep, cavernous pot bunker in the middle. It’s all carry, so just choose the right club and trust your swing.

The finishing hole on the outward 9 is a 479-yard dogleg right par 5. Play your tee shot downhill from an elevated tee box and then the rest of the hole is straight uphill. Those trying to go for the green in two will have to carry it on due to the two large bunkers in the middle of the fairway.

With back to back par 5s at 9 and 10, it’s a great time to pick up a couple of shots if you can put a couple of good holes together. Number 10 is a short par 5 that plays 465 yards from the back tees; a good drive and a hybrid or fairway wood may be all you need. Again, there are no bunkers guarding the green – in fact there are only about 15 on the entire course – so swing away!

Number 11 is a long par 4 that plays over 400 yards from the back tees; the good news is that it’s downhill. With woods all down the right side and the fairway sloping right to left, your best play is down the left side. The green is well protected with grass bunkers; miss it and up and down can be a tough make.

Number 13 is the first par 3 on the backside and although it plays downhill, it still plays long. The green is protected with a bunkers in the front guarding both sides. At 195 yards from the back tees, it will take a good tee shot to find the green and make par or better.

Number 17 is a beast of a par 5, playing 514 yards uphill, from the back tees; it will take three good shots to get on the green. You’ll encounter pot bunkers and fairway bunkers along the way.

Apple Mountain Golf Club has partnered with one of the best resorts the Blue Ridge Mountains have to offer:  Holiday Inn Club Vacations Apple Mountain Resort. Apple Mountain Resort sits at the edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest and has a variety of amenities and activities for the entire family. There’s an 18-hole outdoor mini golf course, 18-hole disc golf course, horseback riding, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. In the Activity Center there’s an arcade with video games, movie theater, grill and snack bar. Nearby you’ll find opportunities for zip-lining, fly boarding, ATV tours, Moccasin Creek State Park and Toccoa Falls. Each two bedroom/two bath villas is quite spacious with plenty of room for relaxing in the living room or putting together delicious meals in the full kitchen. There’s a washer/dryer included in select villas or you can use the free onsite laundry facilities. You’ll also get free Wi-Fi and parking too.

Apple Mountain Golf Club offers some of the best membership programs I have come across. If you choose to avoid the weekends and just play on Monday through Friday, a membership to Apple Mountain Golf Club will only set you back $750/yr. ($700 if you’re a senior). Play any time, any day and the cost is only $950, or $900 for a senior. Additional family members can be added for $350/yr. The membership fee includes your cart fee and driving range privileges. For those who feel the need to balance their work, family and leisure activities, there is a Social Golf Membership which allows you to play between the hours of 3 – 6pm, Monday through Friday, with driving range privileges and cart fees included. A Social Golf Membership runs a mere $75/month and you can bring Junior along for no charge!

Perhaps the biggest benefit of joining Apple Mountain Golf Club is that you have full access to all Brown Golf-managed clubs. Brown’s portfolio of private, daily fee and resort courses includes clubs in the Carolinas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Vermont. As a Brown Golf Club member, you’ll have full access to all of their facilities. You can get more information on the Brown Golf Management National Reciprocal Program on their corporate website.

The professional staff at Apple Mountain Golf Club is committed to making the game of golf fun for players of all levels. They offer lessons for both beginners and accomplished golfers alike. Apple Mountain’s fully stocked pro shop is the home for all of your golfing needs, everything from clubs and accessories to logoed golf apparel.

The course at Apple Mountain Golf Club isn’t going to beat you up; it was designed to allow golfers to enjoy the game, not rush through and thoroughly frustrate them. One thing you’ll learn about mountain golf is that the scorecard may say it’s a 490-yard par 5, but odds are that it could play considerably more or less! Typically, the short holes play longer and the longer holes play shorter. At Apple Mountain, there is a good variety of both, so bring your best game! For more information on Apple Mountain Golf Club or to book a tee time or stay and play package give them a call at (706) 754-2255 or visit them online: www.applemountaingolfga.com.

Lacoste Fall 2019 – A Whole New Look

0

With the advent of the fall golf season, Lacoste is a brand that needs to be considered when upgrading your fall wardrobe. Lacoste is probably better known for their tennis apparel but from what I’ve seen from their fall collection, there’s a lot of crossover from golf to tennis apparel.

Novak Djokovic is one of, if not the best, tennis player in the world and Lacoste is doubling down on the Djokovic name by creating a line of tennis apparel with his name. That being said, the Lacoste Novak Djokovic Ceremony Track Jacket is also a great choice for golf. This lightweight layering piece is made from a stretchy material that affords freedom of movement and the Ultra Dry fabric wicks away sweat keeping you cool and dry. The Ceremony Track Jacket features a full-length zipper with a contrasting zipper track and zipper garage and a stand-up collar. The contrasting mesh inserts on the sleeves and side panels offer added breathability while the dual front zippered pockets will keep all contents safe, secure and dry. There’s a heat transfer logo on the left shoulder, a Djokovic signature logo on the left sleeve and an embroidered crocodile logo on the left chest. This jacket is comfortable and looks great on and off the court.

If your style tendencies take you slightly out of the norm, you’ll want to check out the Sport Light Stretch Plaid Golf Pants. These classy looking pants are sewn from Lacoste’s Gabardine fabric which is comfortable in warmer weather. The zip fly and button closure make them easy to get on and off and the slash front pockets provide ample storage for golf necessities. The back pockets will accommodate most scorecards and the croc transfer print above the front right pocket identifies the brand. The all-over plaid print is flowing and elegant and screams golf.

Another great cool weather piece is Lacoste’s SPORT Breathable UV Protection Golf Sweatshirt. This sweatshirt is sewn form a stretch fabric with UV sunblock and is engineered for performance with a breathable quick-drying mid layer. An ergonomic zip collar with contrast band and sporty raglan sleeves complete the look. Contrasting panels on the chest and arms add a sporty touch. Available color combinations are Red/Navy Blue/White or Navy Blue/White/Flashy Yellow.

It will get you noticed! The Stretch Print Jersey Polo is available in 3 color combos: Navy Blue/White, White/Navy Blue and Blue/White.

When the weather is as unpredictable as your next tee shot, Lacoste’s Women’s SPORT Breathable Stretch Zip Golf Jacket is a great choice. This mid layer garment oozes performance with built-in stretch, quick-dry technology and a softly brushed interior that adds insulating warmth. The Breathable Stretch Zip Golf Jacket features an Ottoman-trim collar and zipper closure with concealed front zip pockets. The contrast panels and Ottoman trim on the sides and sleeves are a nice touch and there’s a green crocodile transfer on the left chest. It’s available in a Red/Navy Blue/White color combination.

Golf dresses are making a comeback and Lacoste’s Fitted Color-Block Cotton Polo Dress is a can’t miss choice. It’s sewn from Pima cotton interlock fabric and features a ribbed polo collar with collar stand and concealed button placket. The abstract color-blocking design creates a stunning look.  There’s an embroidered green crocodile patch on the left chest.

Ladies, look and feel your best on the links in the SPORT Technical Wool Blend Golf Sweater. Lacoste’s SPORT Technical Gabardine Golf Skirt is crafted from the company’s technical gabardine fabric and features a concealed side zipper for optimal freedom of movement. It’s available in a multitude of colors and is a piece that needs to be in every gal’s closet.

Eseeola Lodge at the Linville Golf Club – Elegance, Beauty and a Donald Ross Masterpiece

0

Sometimes history tells a funny story. Back in 1888, mining entrepreneur Hugh MacRae envisioned the Linville, NC area as a busy manufacturing hub with hundreds of buildings lining the streets and lots of hustle and bustle. Thankfully, he came to learn that Linville’s potential was in its existing beauty, not future industry. People were falling in love with Linville because it was already a special place. Travelers flocked to the area for the cool summer temperatures and friendly people. MacRae abandoned his initial plans and the town slowly morphed into a resort community. And, at the center of it all was – and still is – The Eseeola Lodge.

Work was completed on the original Eseeola Inn in 1891, a large Queen Anne-styled building. The Inn hired a baker and chef from New York for that summer, purchased the finest linens and china money could buy and created a first-class dining experience for guests that came to Linville for some rest and relaxation.

There was plenty to do at the Eseeola Inn. Guests could take a buggy or horseback ride through the mountains or enjoy trout fishing from the banks of the Linville River. Or they could indulge in a rousing croquet match, a few sets of tennis, archery, billiards or lawn bowling. The following year, the Eseeola Inn built a nine-hole golf course, giving guests one more activity to choose from. Another 5 holes were added in 1900 and as Howard E Covington wrote in his book Linville: A Mountain Home for 100 Years, “By playing four of the new holes twice, and shooting from different tees, Linville could claim an 18-hole course.”

Fast forward several years. As the season got underway in the spring of 1936, a fire broke out in the kitchen and the entire resort was destroyed. Guests were accommodated in the Chestnut Annex, named for its unique – and now irreplaceable – chestnut bark shingles, selected by world renowned architect Henry Bacon. Because it had become so popular by guests of the resort, the company decided to add a lounge, dining room, and kitchen to the annex, and officially renamed it The Eseeola Lodge.

The Eseeola Lodge is all about stately elegance. Although there are only a total of 24 rooms and suites, their level of service is impeccable. The rooms may not be as large as some of the national chains however they are very warm and inviting, and very well appointed.  Resort guests can also enjoy other features of The Eseeola Lodge including the library, lounge and bar, or wander around the numerous buildings that make up the property and take in the surrounding beauty of the grounds. On property you’ll find a day camp for kids, which provides adults just enough time to indulge in a luxurious spa treatment. If you’re so inclined, head over to the pool and swim a few laps. You can also take advantage of the tennis courts and exercise and fitness room. If you’re an outdoor adventurer, you can play a round of croquet or go canoeing and fishing. There’s still plenty to do.

The Eseeola Lodge will take your dining experiences to a whole new level. A sumptuous breakfast is included with every night’s stay and if you’re on their Modified American plan, dinner is included as well. Executive Chef Patrick Maisonhaute and his staff of culinary experts will tempt your taste buds with dishes that meld together perfect ingredients. Among the assortment of dishes on their menu, you’re sure to find something that will pique your curiosity, perhaps using ingredients your palette has not yet encountered. Their desserts are unique as well. The Honey Crème Brulee is absolutely delicious as was everything else we sampled.

Kara Penland and her brother Brandon Wilson have been working at the Eseeola Lodge for almost 30 years. Brandon is Eseeola Lodge’s Sommelier and Maître d’; Kara is a Dining Room Manager with an added duty.

It seems Kara has always had a particular skill for making ice cream. When one of the club’s members fell ill with throat cancer, Kara took it upon herself to see that he had plenty of her specialty, Peppermint Ice Cream. It seems that the member became such a fan of the ice cream that he began sharing it with other members and friends. After he passed away, Kara was asked if she would be interested in making the ice cream on a regular basis. Now she makes it about three times each week and it is absolutely delicious.

Back in the day, many people from different walks of life saw Linville’s potential. World renowned golf course architect Donald Ross was one of them. Ross visited Linville in 1924 and knew almost immediately that this was the place he wanted to build his next golf course. He spent barely two days scouting the soggy valley and forests in the area. Later that year, Ross and his company began construction of a new 18-hole championship golf course and the old course was abandoned. The Linville Golf Club was born!

To say Donald Ross did a magnificent job creating The Linville Golf Club is like calling the Titanic a boat. In true Ross fashion, the course is both playable and challenging. On most holes, there’s plenty of room off the tee, although some require something less than driver. There’s a lot of undulation and mounding in the fairways, creating uneven lies, but the biggest challenge when playing this course lies in the green complexes. They’re smaller than most and the undulation and pitch requires some skill to get it close and keep it close. Many greens have no sand bunkers around them; they don’t need them, the grass mounding is penal enough. On just about any hole, your best bet is to leave it below the hole, if possible.

Over the years, closely mowed collection areas around the green have been attributed to Ross, but that is just a fallacy. His goal in creating these collection areas around the green was to promote the art of chipping. You’ll see this as you make your way around the course, especially at the par 3, 6th hole. Miss the green off the tee and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The 3rd hole is a par 4 that plays 414 yards from the White tees and has been ranked as one of golf’s 100 greatest holes. I had a good drive off the tee and was still left with an uphill 165-yard approach shot into a green that slopes dramatically from back to front and has a lot of undulation. Score a par or better and consider the round a success!

During our stay, I met Bill Mechesney. Forty-nine years ago, Bill was the Assistant Professional at the Golf club. He and his wife Sue were back for the first time since he left. I asked him what differences he saw in the course then and now; his answer was “Very little.” That’s not an uncommon response when it comes to a Donald Ross golf course. Ross’ courses are classics that stand the ultimate test – time. His green may not be large, but they are indeed challenging. Many of the greens don’t have any bunkers around them – they don’t need them. The creek that meanders throughout the course makes you think about your club selection. Tee box landing areas are generous, and the course isn’t overly long, yet conquering it is an arduous task. It’s a course I can’t wait to play again.

There are two ways to play this incredible Donald Ross layout; become a member or stay at the Eseeola Lodge. For more information or to book your next stay at the Eseeola Lodge, give them a call at (828) 733-4311 or visit them online at www.eseeola.com.

The Falls Club of the Palm Beaches: The Best Golf Membership Value in South Florida

0

The Falls Club of the Palm Beaches in Lake Worth, Florida is a very unique country club for this part of Florida. Unlike many of the private clubs down here, The Falls Club is not part of a mandatory membership community, meaning to live in the community, you have to be a club member of some sort. The Falls Club isn’t part of any community; one of the best attributes of this club is that’s there are no homes whatsoever on the course.

The 18-hole championship golf course at The Falls Club is one of South Florida’s best kept secrets when it comes to private clubs. The facility is situated on 170 acres of prime real estate and was originally designed by Joe Lee. It’s also easy to walk, if you feel the urge. The fairways, tees and rough are carpeted in Tifway Bermuda grass. In 2007, architect Kipp Schulties added his masterful touch to the Falls Club and upgraded the greens to pristine Mini-Verde, a smooth, luxurious and fast putting surface. Massive bunkers protect the greens and not only add to the challenge of the course but add a lot to the aesthetics.

As it sits, the golf course at The Falls Club is challenging, fair and a lot of fun. With seven sets of tees the course can play anywhere from 6,757 – 4.894 yards, so there is a suitable yardage for everyone regardless of skill level. In addition to an immaculate golf course, The Falls Club has some pretty impressive practice facilities including a full length driving range, a short game area with sand bunkers and a large undulated practice green to get you ready for the putts you’ll face on the course. Should you feel the need to get some help fine tuning your game, the golf professional staff at The Falls Club can help you, whether it’s an individual or group lesson, club fitting or a playing lesson.

The course features modest elevation changes as can be witnessed on the 2nd hole, a dogleg right par 4 that plays 359 yards to a green that sits about one club above the fairway. The 4th hole features a lot of undulation in the fairways and another uphill approach shot.

Several holes stand out in my mind, starting with Number 5, a short 300 yard hole that is the first real encounter with water. It lines the left side of the fairway with more water coming into play on the right side as you approach the green. Look for the eagle in the tree next to the 5th tee overlooking the pond. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see him swoop down and grab a fish out of the lake.

Number 16 is the signature hole at The Falls Club and arguably the most beautiful hole on the course. This stunning par 3 plays 142 yards from the White tees and requires a carry over water from an elevated tee box to a green surrounded by a rock wall. Although it’s rated as the easiest hole on the course, it is anything but. Not only do you have to carry the water off the tee but there is a large, deep bunker that must be navigated as well. If the pin is behind the bunker, good luck! Getting on the green is just part of the equation. The green features a lot of undulation and there’s about 2 ½ feet of elevation change from back to front. The waterfall in the background only adds to the luster of the hole.

The par 5, 18th hole is one of the most unique par 5s I have ever played. To some, it’s just a long par 5 around a lake, but for me, the look and feel of the hole is something special. It plays 515 yards from the White tees and requires an accurate and long drive off the tee to set up the layup shot. Water is in play all down the left side and if you want to try and carry the lake, you’re going to have to fly it almost 300 yards from the back tees. Your layup shot will be played down a fairly narrow strip of fairway with water all down the left and a strand of live oaks on the right. From there, you’re looking at a short pitch shot into a well undulated green with that water again on the left and two strategically placed bunkers. Shortly after the course opened Fred Couples was playing the course decided to give it a try and succeeded. A lady who was watching him play remarked on how terrific that shot was and asked if he could do it again, to which he obliged, again successfully. Since that time the number of failures have greatly outweighed successes.

Something else that sets The Falls Club apart is their caddie program. Anyone that has ever played with a caddie can easily attest to their value, especially if they’ve been at the course for a while. The caddies at The Falls Club provide unparalleled service from the moment you arrive at the property until the time you leave; not to mention their valuable expertise on the course. The caddies at The Falls Club have undergone intensive training and are able to provide a service the majority of golfers will never experience.

As a member of the Falls Club of the Palm Beaches, there’s plenty to do even if golf isn’t your game. Looking at the social calendar for November and December there are a myriad of activities including Yoga, tennis, canasta, book reviews and a number of events that center around food. The pool area was recently redone as part of a capital improvements project and looks spectacular. For golfers there are men’s and women’s leagues, couples play, interclub play and a bevy of tournaments. The pro shop also works with top manufacturers such as Callaway, PING and TaylorMade to set up demo days where you can test all the latest golf gear.

It doesn’t matter if you’re playing early in the morning or later in the afternoon, The Grille Room is a great place to enjoy breakfast with an early morning cocktail or lunch. Breakfast is served all day, including crepes, quiche and omelets. The Avocado & Pear Salad and Roasted Beets, Baby Kale & Goat Cheese Salads are two popular choices and their main dishes (served every day) include Kabobs, Grilled Salmon and Korean Beef. Of course, your favorite adult beverages are always available!

I had the opportunity to play the back nine with two members, David Friedman and Max Karyo. David has been a member of the club since it opened in 1985; Max has been a member for the past 5 years. Both men agreed that the main attraction is the golf course and the fact that there are no houses on it. They also commented on the membership and how easy it is to make new friends. Most people who join The Falls already know another member; those who don’t usually make new friends quickly.

Golfers looking to join a private club in this area have many options and there are several benefits to membership at The Falls Club. For starters, there are no initiation fees or assessments. The club is financially stable and the new members are adding vitality to the club and its amenities through increased participation.

Secondly, The Falls Club is managed by Troon Prive, part of Troon Management, the leading golf management company in the US. Troon Golf is making their Troon Advantage Program available to Falls Club members, providing up to 50% off of rack rates at over 85 Troon-managed facilities around the world. You’ll also be enrolled in the Troon Prive Privilege Program which grants reciprocal playing privileges with other private clubs managed by Troon Golf. You’ll be able to play these courses for no more than a cart fee and bring up to three guests who will receive discounted rates. They also have a tremendous reciprocal program with other private clubs in the area.

Thirdly, there are no tee times, just show up and play. Golf memberships will be capped at 225, so showing up and playing without a wait should not be much of a problem.

Technically, membership at The Falls Club is by “invitation only.” That being said, if there’s a will, there’s a way. Contact Membership Director Steve Brauner who will do his best to help you navigate this hurdle! He can be reached vis email at sbrauner@thefallsclub.com or visit their website, www.thefallsclub.com.

Lagoon Park and Gateway Park Golf Courses – Munis Cut from a Different Cloth

0

When it comes to municipal golf courses, Lagoon Park and Gateway Golf Courses in Montgomery, Alabama are way ahead of the curve. Because of budgetary constraints and the fact that golf course maintenance is usually way down the totem pole when it comes to priority within a civic budget, most municipal golf facilities are very disappointing. Course conditions are at best strained, buildings are usually shoddy and in disrepair and the overall ambience can be somewhat depressing. This is absolutely not the case with the Lagoon Park and Gateway Park Golf Courses in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Lagoon Park Golf Course was designed by Charles Graves in 1978 on land that was once a swamp. The Tifdwarf Bermuda grass fairways feature numerous doglegs lined with towering pine trees, flowering dogwoods, California raindrop trees and century-old oaks. This places a premium on shot placement. As temperatures warm up in the spring, the course comes alive with hundreds of blooming azaleas and flowering trees lining the beautifully manicured paths. The result is a scenic, parkland-style golf course. If you can make your way around this course without hitting a tree or having a tree come into play, you’ve probably shot a pretty good round!

From the back tees, Lagoon Park plays 6,773 yards with a course rating of 71.2 and a slope of 121. Move up a set of tees and the course plays 6,413 (69.6/117). Four sets of tees make Lagoon Park a fun course, no matter how good a golfer you are. Whether you’re walking or riding, the PGA staff at Lagoon Park figures your round can be played in about 4:15 which I found to be a more than adequate amount of time. The modest elevation changes and quick pace of play make walking the course a very popular option among local golfers.

At 414 yards from Tee Box #2, the par 4, 4th hole is the Number 1 handicapped hole at Lagoon Park and is the first hole that brings water into play, although you have to hit a pretty bad shot to find it. The tee shot can be somewhat tricky and the hole is best played with a tee shot out to the left, which does bring the water and high grass into the picture. Push anything out to the right and there are four very large pine trees that will need to be dealt with. The green is protected by bunkers in front on either side and slopes back right to front left.

To me the most challenging type of hole is a double dogleg par 5 and the 15th hole doesn’t disappoint. From Tee #2 the hole plays 525 yards. If you can hit a slight draw around the gentle left dogleg off the tee, you’ll be off to a good start. Or, if you’re a long ball hitter, you may want to challenge the 150-foot tall pine trees guarding the first dogleg. Depending on your ball position in the fairway, you may be able to hit a slight cut shot in and reach the green in two, setting up a rare putt for eagle. Don’t worry, par is still a good score here!

Many local golfers consider the practice facilities at Lagoon Park to the finest in the city. It’s a complete practice facility with a lighted driving range that can accommodate up to 20 players at a time. The practice facility also has a large putting and chipping green, complete with a green-side bunker and a private instruction area.

The PGA professional staff at Lagoon Park are building a premier golf teaching and learning facility in the Montgomery area and its instructors are collaborating to create learning opportunities that enhance the experience for both local and visiting golfers. They use the latest computer technology and believe that the game should be learned from the green back to the tee, teaching new golfers the fundamentals and foundations of impact and ball control.  Director of Golf and General Manager Mike Shirley has over 25 years’ experience as a PGA club professional and serves as one of the instructors, specializing in Laser Optics Putting.  Mike can help any golfer improve their putting technique through an innovative approach linking eyesight, aim, and resulting swing compensations that plague a golfers ability to score and take their putting game to the next level.

Recently, Talbert Griffin, a native of Montgomery, has been hired as the Director of Instruction. Talbert’s collegiate career included playing for both the Oklahoma State and University of Alabama golf teams as well as winning several area and statewide events as an amateur. Talbert specializes in both full swing and short game instruction and can offer tips and suggestions that will make you a better player.

In the summer of 2018, Lagoon Park’s clubhouse underwent a renovation which included remodeled clubhouse facilities, and a sitting area with multiple TVs to view sporting events. In addition, the Heron’s Nest Grille serves up some really good clubhouse food and is available to cater outside events. I highly recommend the burgers!

Montgomery’s other municipal golf course is located about 20 minutes away from Lagoon Park at Gateway Park. Gateway Park Golf Course & Learning Center is located off Interstate 65 and is one of Montgomery’s most comprehensive golf and practice facilities. Changes have been made to the course recently and it is no longer an executive-style golf course. From the back tees, this 9-hole course plays 2,984 yards. There are 3 par 3s, 4 par 4s and 2 par 5s. The course is not only a great place to learn the game, it’s challenging for seasoned players as well.

Although it’s only a 9-hole course, one quick look at the Gateway Park score card and you’ll understand how you get the two different yardages; play the front nine from Tee I and play the back nine from Tee II. The par 3s will keep you honest, they are by no means pushovers. From either set of tees, the shortest par 3 is 167 yards. The way the par 5s are laid out, they are going to be three shot holes for most players. At 280 yards from Tee 1 (247 from Tee 2), Number 6 will be a drivable par 4 for many golfers. Push your tee shot right and you may find the water and wish you had hit something less than driver.

I thoroughly enjoyed both golf courses. Both were well maintained and challenging. Don’t let the length – or lack of it – fool you about Gateway. The greens tend to be smaller, placing a premium on accuracy.

In 2020, Gateway Park will introduce Footgolf, a new way to experience the course and get some exercise at the same time. Footgolf is quickly gaining popularity it is a hybrid combining the sports of soccer with the rules of golf.  The 18 Hole Footgolf course at Gateway Park will play host to group events, local and regional tournaments.

Speaking of events, Lagoon Park’s player-friendly layout is a great place to host your next golf event. Their one-stop approach will take care of all your tournament needs: golf, food and beverages, even prizes. They can help you decide on a format and even help with putting the goody bags together. Whether it’s a corporate outing, golf buddy trip, fundraising event or a charity golf outing, the staff at Lagoon Park can help you bring it all together.

The public is encouraged to become annual passholders and outside group events are always welcome at both facilities. Lagoon Park Golf Course offers some amazing – and affordable opportunities to become an annual passholder and now there are even more perks: No initiation fees, free green fees discounted rates on cart rentals, 50% off Range Balls at Lagoon Park and 10% Off Select Merchandise in the Pro Shop. Easy payment options can be set up too. But perhaps the biggest benefit of becoming a passholder is that you’ll receive preferred rates at participating Honours Golf properties. A Lagoon and Gateway Park Golf Pass is good for one calendar year.  For more information and costs involved, click on the passholder tab at www.playmontgomerygolf.com.

BallenIsles Country Club – One of the Best in the Country

0

BallenIsles has a very storied and prestigious history. The property was developed in 1963 by Florida developer John D. MacArthur in conjunction with the PGA of America. PGA National Golf Club, as it was known at the time, was designed by legendary golf course architects Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. Over the next 10 years, the club would host the PGA Championship and PGA Senior Championship and was also home to the PGA of America. PGA National Golf Club was the playing site for the original PGA TOUR Qualifying School and hosted the inaugural PGA Merchandise Show.

When the club’s 10-year commitment with the PGA of America ended, a name change was in order and the club became known as JDM Country Club and for the next 15 years played host to celebrities and golf professionals alike on their three championship golf courses. In 1988, the entire property were sold and the development was renamed BallenIsles Country Club. A plan was devised to develop a private country club community and today BallenIsles is recognized as one of the Top 100 Clubs in America.

The BallenIsles community has almost 1,600 residences set within 33 neighborhoods, each with its own unique identity. Inside the 24-hour guarded gates, you’ll find all varieties of homes, from expansive estates to single family homes and condominiums. Many homesites overlook shimmering lakes, botanical gardens or one of three magnificent golf layouts. BallenIsles has received a five-star rating for the Platinum Clubs of America.

The BallenIsles community has been blessed with three championship golf courses. The East and North courses were designed by two of golf’s most highly-acclaimed architects of their era: Dick Wilson and Joe Lee.  Accomplished players can play at a championship level from the back tees while players of lesser skills will enjoy competitive playability from the more forward tees. All courses have a few things in common. First, they are all meticulously maintained with a lot of mature trees and fluffy sand in the bunkers. Most of the greens are elevated and feature a lot of undulation. Many of the fairway and greenside bunkers are deep-lipped and tend to be penal in nature but add tremendously to the aesthetics.

The South Course originally opened in 1964 and underwent its first modification in 1967 to accommodate the construction of the North Course. The South Course is considered by many to be the members’ favorite. It is the latest to undergo a recent renovation and reopened to huge accolades in January 2020. This renovation was a complete reconstruction of the golf course at the hands of world renowned architect Rees Jones and included the pump house, irrigation, drainage, design modifications, concrete cart paths.

The East Course is where most of the prestigious PGA tournaments were played and has 17 holes of meticulously maintained Florida golf; lots of water, sand and palm trees. The 6th hole breaks the mold, with more of a desert golf feel. It’s a par 3 that plays 155 yards from the Member tee box and features a large waste bunker between you and the large, elevated green. It’s a great contrasting look.

BallenIsles’ North Golf Course first opened for play as a nine-hole course; a second nine was designed by Joe Lee in 1969.  Golf course architect Kipp Schulties, who does a lot of work in South Florida, performed an extensive renovation of the North Course in 2013. The North Course plays to a par of 72 and features generous fairways that wind their way around several lakes and nature preserves, with trees and water forming the borders of many holes.

In addition to championship golf, BallenIsles offers some of the nicest practice facilities in the area. There’s a double sided driving range with large portable shape canopies at each end. There are also multiple chipping, putting and practice bunkers where you can dial in your golf skills. In the event you need some help, the highly-respected professional golf staff is there to offer advice and lessons if needed.

If you’re looking for the latest equipment or apparel, the Golf Shop has the wares to fill your needs. This full-service golf shop offers apparel, shoes, bags, clubs, balls and a wide variety of men’s and women’s logo and non-logo merchandise. A popular item among the ladies is a custom print outerwear piece by designer Kaeli Smith. This piece is all BallenIsles – literally! There are hand drawings of the BallenIsles logo, the clock tower, clubhouse and even the golf course as well as a few others. It’s available in a couple of different colors. There’s also a matching tote! It’s quickly becoming a must-have for members!

BallenIsles is not afraid of spending money on capital improvements, all done for the benefit of the members. Over the years, they’ve spent well over $80 million on renovations: $5 million on the North Course in 2008, $26 million on The Sports Complex in 2010, $9 million on the East Course in 2013, $35 million on the Clubhouse in 2018 and $7.5 million on the South Course in 2019.

Inside the state-of-the-art Sports Complex you’ll find a full service spa and salon, fitness center, Pilates studio and resort-style swimming pool. The tennis facilities at BallenIsles are ranked #1 in the country and are enjoyed by both casual tennis players and serious competitors. There are 20 Har-Tru clay courts, including a stadium court that seats 500, a hard court and two permanent Pickleball courts. You’ll also find the men’s and women’s tennis & fitness lounges and a full-service tennis shop within the Sports Complex. Lessons and clinics are always available for adults and juniors, regardless of skill level.

The center pin of activity at BallenIsles is the clubhouse which underwent a $35 million renovation and reopened in November 2018. This opulent structure features 115,000 square feet of luxurious space. An additional 9,000 square feet of outdoor verandas was added to the Grand and Golf Terraces for dining or simply relaxing. Additions also included two new kitchens and expansion to both the Men’s and Ladies card Rooms, locker Rooms and meeting rooms.

The Clubhouse is also home to multiple dining venues, offering fresh fare for every member of the family. Harry’s Lounge, named after popular PGA Professional Harry Pezzullo, can be found in the heart of the clubhouse and is a favorite spot for evening drinks. Harry’s features martinis, craft cocktails, specialty coffees, and rotating small plates and unique handmade desserts.

Evolution is BallenIsle’s upscale dining venue and offers a weekly tasting menu with optional wine pairings. You’ll find a sophisticated atmosphere with a wide variety of batch bourbons, single malt scotches and an impressive international wine list. Evolution is the preferred venue for entertaining and impressing guests.
