The Sly Fox Pub in Southern Pines, NC is a British gastropub, that serves up innovative twists on classic British pub fare. The Sly Fox places a premium on quality and freshness with every ingredient in every recipe. If it’s craft beer your after, they have 16 on tap; a wide selection of local, national, international and small batch, limited-time-only craft brews. Their lineup is second-to-none.

The atmosphere here is lively and so is the décor. There’s British rock music playing over the speakers in the bar area; General Manager Ian Drake is from England and gets to choose the music. Personally, I like his choices. Drake has put together a young, professional staff that work together as a cohesive unit, serving up the chef’s eclectic dishes created with an artistic flair.

What sets The Sly Fox apart is their menu and it all starts with the appetizers; and what British gastropub would be complete without serving a Scotch Egg? For those not familiar with it, it’s a soft boiled egg swaddled in sausage meat, then breaded and fried. Simply delicious and served with a Branston pickle. Their Firecracker Shrimp is also a must try appetizer; marinated jumbo shrimp wrapped in a spring roll wrap and deep fried. It’s served with a sweet chili sauce with a kick. The Sly Fox has also put a unique spin on a Canadian dish – Poutine. Truffle fries topped with mushrooms, smoked pork belly and cheese and then finished off with a generous portion of pan gravy. If you’re not keen on sharing, you can easily make a meal of this dish.

Looking for something lighter? The Strawberry Salad features mixed greens topped with generous portions of strawberries and goat cheese, then finished with walnuts and served with a poppy seed dressing.

As for the entrees, there’s something for everyone. From UK favorites such as Bangers & Mash, Fish and Chips and Shepherd’s Pie to fish and seafood dishes like Pan Roasted Salmon and Shrimp & Grits to Grilled Ribeyes an Veal Schnitzel. But the crowd favorite seems to be the Slow Roasted Short Rib Tacos, served with sour cream, guacamole, pickled red onions, fresh chilies, yellow rice and crispy greens.

In the event you’ve left room for dessert, I highly recommend the Homemade Apple Pie or the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Both are served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

These are just a few of the interesting dishes available at The Sly Fox; they also serve some very unique burgers and curry dishes. You’ll find The Sly Fox at 795 SW Broad St. in Southern Pines,  NC.
